The Importance of Knowing the Production Code on the Pack of Cigarettes Consumed

Most men in Indonesia must have (at least tried) smoked once in their lifetime. On average, they are just fad or even want to look cool, so they decide to try cigarettes. Based on the Basic Health Research conducted by the Ministry of Health, the data declares that the number of people who smoke in their teens continues to increase. Most of them begin smoking from the age of 10-18 years.

Smoking at Teenagers

Based on the Government Regulation on Tobacco in 2012, sellers are prohibited from buying cigarettes for minors. Even though most of them buy cigarettes at the stall because their fathers tell them, they still can’t.

Apart from all that, smoking activities for the audience cannot be stopped. They do not smoke because they want to look cool or sheer style, but it has become part of their lifestyle, as I talked about in the article High Smoking Prices at the Beginning of the Year. And for those of you who still make cigarettes a vital part that you have to consume every day, do you know that the cigarettes you buy have an expiration date?

Many Smokers Originally Buy Cigarettes

If you buy food or drinks, indeed you automatically check the expiration date. However, many smokers do not know if there is also a cigarette has an expiration date. Most smokers still buy cigarettes without paying attention to the details of the cigarette packs.

Without realizing, it turns out that cigarettes are also similar to food or drinks in that they both have an expiration period. In the past, most people checked cigarettes for a long time or not based on the colour of the tape attached to the cigarette pack. The method is wrong. You can find out whether the cigarette has expired or not by checking the production code.

The production code on the cigarette pack is information about the date, month, and year of manufacture of the cigarette. This is regulated in Minister of Health Regulation 28/2013 Article 10 paragraph (2) letter c, which contains that health information includes the production code, date, month, and year of production, as well as the name and address of the manufacturer placed on the lower side of the package.

However, it should be understood that the expiration of cigarettes is not the same as food or drinks. Cigarettes that have a long production period does not mean stale, but the taste of cigarettes is no longer as enjoyable as new ones. Although the packaging of the cigarette pack is sealed so that air will not enter, old cigarettes will cause many yellow spots.
