Puskesmas has various services, one of which is Poli KIA. Maternal and Child Health Poly often known as KIA Poly. Poli KIA is an outpatient health service intended for pregnant women, breastfeeding, infants, and toddlers. The establishment of Poli KIA is based on the Law of the Republic of Indonesia No. 25 of 2009 concerning public services. Health Services at Poli KIA

Maternal Mortality Rate (MMR) is a health problem that occurs in pregnant women during childbirth. The factors for this problem are the lack of maximum examination during the antenatal period (pregnancy), lack of knowledge, to a history of hypertension (high blood pressure). So to prevent this, intensive examination and monitoring are needed. 

The puskesmas has been equipped with health services for mothers and toddlers through the KIA Poly. To monitor the health of mothers and toddlers optimally, the following services at the KIA Poly that mothers must know include: 

1. Antenatal care (ANC)

Antenatal care (ANC) is intended for pregnant women to monitor the health of mothers and babies. During pregnancy, mothers are recommended to check at least six times including once in the first trimester, twice in the second trimester, and three times in the third trimester. Prenatal check-ups in the first, second, and third trimesters include:

  • Check body temperature
  • Blood pressure
  • Weight and height
  • Examination of upper arm and head circumference (LILA)
  • Hemoglobin (HB) test
  • Check blood type
  • TT status screening 

2. Maternity and postpartum services

Through the KIA Poly, pregnant women who are waiting for the birth of their baby and are preparing for childbirth can come to the nearest health center. By bringing KIA books, mothers have received childbirth services at the puskesmas. 

In addition to childbirth services, puskesmas also provide postpartum services after giving birth. Post partum is the postpartum recovery period until the reproductive organization can function again. This puerperium lasts for 6-8 weeks. During this postpartum period, mothers need to do control examinations at least 4 times after childbirth, including:

  • Check blood pressure and body temperature
  • The psychological state of the mother
  • Services to get the tetanus vaccine

3. Immunization

The next service is immunization for infants. Immunization is a process to boost the immune system and form antibodies. This immunization is very important to protect babies from infectious diseases. In puskesmas, immunization includes:

  • BCG immunization (bacillus calmette guerin) is an immunization given to infants aged 3 months to provide immunity against TB disease.
  • Hepatitis B immunization is an immunization given within 12 hours to newborns and then given at the age of 1 month, 3 months, to 6 months to prevent hepatitis B. 
  • Polio immunization is an immunization given to prevent poliomyelitis. 
  • DPT immunization is an immunization given to infants aged 6 weeks to prevent diphtheria, pertussis, and tetanus. DPT immunization along with hepatitis B immunization. 
  • Measles immunization is an immunization given to infants aged 9 months through the School Child Immunization Month (BIAS) program.

4. Maternal and child health nutrition counseling

Poli KIA also provides nutritional counseling services for mothers and children. This nutrition counseling aims to provide support and encouragement to mothers who are experiencing problems providing nutrition to children. This is to improve nutrition and nutrition for maximum child growth. This nutritional counseling is carried out by nutritionists who are competent in their fields. 

5. Integrated service management for sick toddlers (MBTS)

Integrated service management for sick toddlers (MBTS) is a service in Puskesmas that aims as an integrated or integrated approach method for sick toddlers aged 0-59 months to the maximum. This MBTS service includes improved management of pneumonia, diarrhea, measles, malaria, ear infections, and malnutrition. To prevent it by providing vitamin K, and vitamin A, and counseling breastfeeding and food. 

6. Integrated management of young toddlers (MTBM)

In addition to MBTS, puskesmas also provides integrated management services for young toddlers (MBTM). MBTM is an integrated approach for young toddlers aged 1 day to 2 months to receive intensive care. MBTM’s services include:

  • Essential care in newborns.
  • Recognition of newborn red flags and referral when necessary. 
  • Management of low birth weight (BBLR).
  • Management of infection in newborns.

7. Reproductive health services

The puskesmas also serve reproductive health for adolescents and brides-to-be. This reproductive health service includes counseling and education about reproductive safety. The goal is to educate reproductive health for adolescents to prepare for married life by becoming parents at a mature age.

8. Ultrasound

For pregnant women now, ultrasound services do not need to go to the hospital and incur expensive costs. Because through the MCH Poly at the puskesmas, mothers will get ultrasound examination (USG) services. This ultrasound examination can be done in the 1st trimester and 3rd trimester. Pregnant women only need to bring a copy of their KTP/domicile letter, BPJS card, and KIA book.  

9. Services for catin or bride-to-be 

Next is the service for catin or bride-to-be. The purpose of this service is to detect early hereditary diseases such as hemophilia, thalassemia, or sexually transmitted diseases such as HIV / AIDS which will later have an impact on pregnancy and the baby born. These services include:

  • Physical examination
  • TT immunization
  • HB test, blood type, PP test, triple elimination of HIV, hepatitis B, and syphilis
  • Dental examination 
  • Premarital counseling
  • Nutritional counseling for catin

10. Referral of cases of higher, precise, fast, and correct health facility risk

The next service is a referral for mothers and children with serious health problems to get intensive care at a hospital facility or a complete health clinic.
