Mr. Darmanto Has Been in the World of Education for 32 years
Mr. Darmanto has been involved in education since 32 years ago, starting his career as an educator at WARGA SURAKARTA VOCATIONAL SCHOOL. During the discussion Mr. Darmanto also mentioned that soon he would also retire from his teaching position. This feels even more meaningful because Mr. Darmanto will also end his career as an educator at the same school as when he started his career.
Thanks to his long career journey, Mr. Darmanto has gone through various changes in the world of education. He said that changes in the world of education were none other than an effort to bring a better generation than before. He also said that reform is also a challenge that needs to be faced together, not only in the education sector but in all.
Merdeka Curriculum Gives Freedom But With Limitations
Mr. Darmanto defines an independent curriculum as a curriculum that provides freedom but still has limitations. It doesn’t mean that the freedom which is the root of this curriculum actually allows students to do whatever they want. Precisely the freedom in question is the freedom to seek sources of knowledge, where at this time it is very easy to find sources of knowledge via the internet. Just one click, student questions can be answered.
He mentioned that unlike before when knowledge was only centered and sourced from teachers, now the sources of knowledge have expanded. The teacher now acts as a facilitator as well as a motivator who encourages students to always be eager to gain knowledge.
Furthermore, he said that change is not easy, especially for some teachers who are not used to technological developments. To this day, this problem is still an obstacle in implementing the merdeka curriculum. However, Mr. Darmanto mentioned that he and the entire team at the SMK Warga Surakarta continued to try so that this obstacle could be overcome.
