The discussion was held in the studio room of the PT Solo Abadi Indonesia Workshop with the theme “Implications of Anthropometrics in Industrial Engineering”.
Brief Biodata of Mrs. Rahmaniyah Dwi Astuti, S.T., M.T.
As someone who has been involved in industrial engineering for a long time, Mrs. Rahmaniyah Dwi Astuti, S.T., M.T. or who is familiarly called Mrs. Rahma has released many journals and books on industrial engineering. Mrs. Rahma understands the ins and outs of industrial engineering in general, and ergonomics and work systems in particular.
The mother of two children serves as Head of the Work System Design and Ergonomics Laboratory for the Industrial Engineering Study Program. At the same time as a teaching lecturer under the auspices of Sebelas Maret University Surakarta. With his track record and experience, we invite him to share his thoughts in the discussion about the role of anthropometry.
The Role of Anthropometry in Industrial Engineering
As we know that anthropometry is present since we open our eyes in the morning, until we close our eyes at night. Anthropometry or the dimensions of the human body always affect our activities every second. The activities in question cover a wide range of fields. One of them is industrial engineering, in the study of industrial engineering there is a topic that discusses ergonomics and work systems. The topic is closely related to anthropometry and human activity.
“Man is the Measure of All Things” is an apt allegory that describes the role of anthropometry in the field of industrial engineering. Even though he came from an engineering and mechanical background, according to Mrs. Rahma, industrial engineering has a main focus on humans as workers. The task and role of industrial engineering is to manage efficiency, effectiveness and productivity which are then mutually sustainable. To achieve this, a work system is needed that pays attention to the ergonomics or anthropometry of the workers. Work arrangements that are adjusted to worker anthropometry in the future will not only improve the welfare of workers but also companies. To achieve high productivity, minimize work fatigue and accidents.
