Surakarta, PT. Solo Abadi Indonesia – Anthropometry is one of the crucial instruments in various scientific fields, one of which is Industrial Engineering. On December 20, 2021, PT. SOLO ABADI INDONESIA was entrusted by the Industrial Engineering Study Program at Sebelas Maret University (UNS) in providing learning support instruments, namely Portable Anthropometry. On this occasion, PT. Solo Abadi Indonesia, represented by Sigit Dwi Prasetyo, conducted training on the use of Portable Anthropometry while simultaneously carrying out measurement simulations that could be carried out with Portable Anthropometry to six 5th semester students of the Industrial Engineering Study Program UNS at the Work Systems and Ergonomics Laboratory.
Industrial Engineering of UNS has six labs including planning and design laboratory practicum, logistics system laboratory, work system design and ergonomics laboratory, production system laboratory, quality system laboratory and optimization design laboratory and information system. One of the focuses of learning in Industrial Engineering is the design of effectiveness and efficiency in the production process of various tools for human activities. So it is crucial for this study program to have supporting instruments such as Portable Anthropometry in the learning process and practicum.
According to information given by Mrs. Rina Sulistyowati, S.T. as a laboratory assistant at UNS Industrial Engineering, this is not the first time for Industrial Engineering of UNS to collaborate with PT. Solo Abadi Indonesia in providing supporting instruments for learning work systems and ergonomics. In 2018, Industrial Engineering UNS also used the Anthropometry Chair for learning purposes. Before using the Anthropometry Chair produced by PT. Solo Abadi Indonesia, Industrial Engineering UNS uses a homemade anthropometric chair made of wood.
“Before using Anthropometry Chair produced by Solo Abadi, we made our own. It made out of wood. The one produced by Solo Abadi is made of stainless steel and aluminium so it is way sturdy and the measurements are more specific.” she added.

To improve the development of studies and research in the field of work systems and ergonomics, Industrial Engineering UNS decided to once again cooperate with PT. Solo Abadi Indonesia for the procurement of Portable Anthropometry. This instrument is considered important because it can facilitate research and practicum anywhere. This was also acknowledged by Mrs. Rina Sulistyowati, S.T.
“We used to visit factory to make a measurement. It is impossible to bring the workers to our lab. So by having this Portable Anthropometry we can do any measurement anywhere and anytime.
“The training was very useful, because it became easier for us to take measurements and can be carried anywhere too… it is also way more accurate and we can also add dimensions to the measurements…there are 100 measurements.. Having to say that it’s portable, it’s easy to carry wherever we can also use it for final assignments if someone takes the topic of anthropometry… it’s very helpful.”
